Robert Frank

  For my final project, I decided to give my take on street photography. Like many others, including Robert Frank, I am inspired by people. I am fascinated with pondering about strangers, and photography allows me to capture a specific moment in time and analyze the moment in ways I do not throughout my day. New York, in particular, holds a large amount of diversity with people of all backgrounds and markings of humans everywhere you look, making it the perfect place for street photography.  Robert Frank was a monumental photographer in street photography. He captured people doing what they do best: being people. These photos hold mystery and innocence. I think the fact that Frank chose to photograph strangers instead of anything else shows he may think the same way I do. He observes the people walking by and thinks they are deserving of a photograph that he can hold onto, even if this person never knows. Sebastião Salgado

  Sebastiao Salgado is a documentary photographer who through his beautiful technique was able to capture the humanity and beauty in different parts of the world. As you can see with his images of animals, he also had a very good sense of timing and knew when the moment was right for a picture. All of his images are very impactful and tell a story of many layers, many of which are sad poems. His work has incredible tonalities and detail. The photo above is probably my favorite. It almost looks like a charcoal drawing. The similarities between the photos above and below have an uneasy feel.  To me, his work investigates the nature of life in different forms. His work also raises awareness about the conditions some people live in to this day despite the wealth our species has. You can tell Salgado seeks to find these places and people to illustrate the deepest parts of being human.  Salgado was able to capture the natural worlds beauty as well.
